Advisory · an objective review of your technology
A plain, factual picture of your technology, its risks and what to fix first.
We review your infrastructure, security posture, software licences, cloud use and operational bottlenecks, and tell you what we find without softening it. You receive an inventory of what you have, an assessment of the risks, an analysis of the technical debt and the bottlenecks that slow people down, and a prioritized plan, so that leadership knows where the exposure is and what to do about it, in what order.
What you get
What is included in Technology Assessment
Asset inventory
A complete list of hardware, software and cloud services, with ownership, age and support status.
Security posture review
Where you are exposed: accounts, devices, networks, backups and habits, with findings ranked by risk.
Technical debt and bottlenecks
What is ageing, fragile or slowing people down, and what it would take to put right.
Licence and cost review
What you pay for, what you use, and where you are paying twice or not covered.
Resilience check
Whether backups work, who can recover what, and how long you could be without key systems.
A prioritized plan
The findings turned into an action plan: what to do first, what can wait and what to leave alone.
Is it the right one?
Where it fits, and where it does not
We would rather you choose the right thing than the one we happen to be discussing.
A strong fit when
- You have inherited systems that nobody has fully documented.
- A customer, insurer or auditor has asked about your IT and security.
- You are about to invest in a major project and want a baseline first.
- You suspect you are paying for things you do not use, and missing things you need.
Look at something else when
- You need a technical penetration test: that is a specialist, separate exercise, which we can help you commission.
- You already know the problem and want the fix: go to the solution, such as Cybersecurity or Cloud Strategy & Migration.
- You want a certificate: an assessment is not certification, and we will not describe it as one.
How we run it
How we run Technology Assessment
Every engagement runs in phases, so the business sees progress and risks surface early. The timescale for each phase is set after an assessment, not before.
Scope
Agree what is in and out, who we talk to and what access we need.
Collect
Gather the inventory, the configurations and the contracts, and talk to the people who use and run them.
Assess
Check security, resilience, cost and condition against good practice and your own needs.
Rank
Rank the findings by risk and by effort, so that the order of work is clear.
Report
Write it plainly, with evidence, for leadership and for the technical team.
Read out
Walk through the findings with you, answer questions and agree next steps.
Questions we are asked
Technology Assessment: questions and answers
Will you tell us if the findings are bad?
Yes, plainly. An assessment that softens its findings is of no use. We report what we find, with evidence, and what to do about it, in an order you can act on.
Is this the same as a penetration test?
No. An assessment reviews your technology, configuration, processes and risks. A penetration test is a separate, specialist exercise in which testers try to break in. We can recommend when you need one and help you commission it.
What do you need from us?
A named contact, access to your systems or to someone who can show them to us, your contracts and inventories if you have them, and some time with the people who run things. We agree the exact list when we scope the work.
