Core ERP · cloud, multi-tenant
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition: standard processes, delivered as a service.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is SAP's multi-tenant cloud ERP: one standardized version of S/4HANA that SAP runs and updates for every customer. You adopt SAP's best-practice processes, keep the core clean, and add what makes your business different through extensions built alongside it. It is a separate product from SAP S/4HANA (on-premise) and from the Private Edition.
Capabilities
What SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition covers
Finance and accounting in the cloud
Financial accounting, controlling, closing and reporting on SAP's standard scope, kept current by SAP's regular updates.
Procurement and supply chain
Purchasing, inventory and fulfilment processes that start from SAP's best-practice content rather than a blank page.
Sales and service
Order-to-cash and service processes on SAP's standard scope, with pricing and billing in the same system as finance.
Embedded analytics
Analytics on live data inside the application, with new capabilities arriving through SAP's regular updates.
Extensibility that does not break the core
Key-user tools for fields, forms and logic, ABAP Cloud for developer extensions, and side-by-side apps on SAP BTP, so updates stay predictable.
Two-tier ERP for subsidiaries
Run subsidiaries or new entities on the Public Edition while a parent company keeps another ERP, with integration between the two.
Which S/4HANA?
Three different products, side by side
SAP S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition are not one product in three wrappers. They differ in who runs them, how far they can be customized and how updates arrive.

Is it the right one?
Where it fits, and where it does not
We would rather you choose the right thing than the one we happen to be discussing.
A strong fit when
- Your processes are fairly standard, or you are ready to adopt SAP best practice rather than recreate old habits.
- You are launching or acquiring entities and need a fast, consistent ERP for each of them.
- You would rather spend on adoption and improvement than on servers, patching and upgrades.
- You want to keep customization low and rely on extensions that survive every update.
Look at something else when
- You need broad modification of SAP's own code, or add-ons that depend on the classic ABAP environment: the Private Edition or SAP S/4HANA may suit you better.
- You have long, heavily customized processes that cannot move to standard: consider the Private Edition.
- You need to control the date of every upgrade: the Public Edition updates on SAP's schedule.

Questions we are asked
S/4HANA Cloud Public: questions and answers
What does "multi-tenant" mean for us?
All customers run the same version of the software on SAP-managed infrastructure, with their own data and configuration kept separate. That is why updates arrive for everyone on SAP's schedule, and why the core is standardized.
Can we customize SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition?
Within the supported extension model: key-user extensibility for fields, forms and logic, ABAP Cloud for developer extensions, and side-by-side applications on SAP BTP. Modifying SAP's own code is not part of the model, which is what keeps updates smooth.
What is GROW with SAP?
