Advisory · technology advice tied to business goals

Technology decisions made against your business goals, not a vendor's catalogue.

We help leadership decide what to buy, build or keep, and why. That means auditing what you have, defining the architecture you are heading for, running vendor selection with you, and showing the total cost of ownership behind each option, so that technology spending follows what the business needs. We recommend on the merits, and we say so when the answer is to do less.

What you get

What is included in IT Consulting

  • Technology capability audit

See what you run, what it does for the business and where the gaps and overlaps are.

  • Target architecture

A picture of where your systems should be heading over the next few years, and the steps between here and there.

  • Vendor selection

Shortlists, questions to ask and a fair comparison, with guidance on tenders and proposals.

  • Total cost of ownership

The cost of each option over its life, including what the quote leaves out.

  • A second opinion

A review of a proposal you have been given, before you sign it.

  • A recommendation for the board

A written recommendation, with the reasons, that leadership can discuss and decide on.

Is it the right one?

Where it fits, and where it does not

We would rather you choose the right thing than the one we happen to be discussing.

A strong fit when

  • A major technology decision is coming, and nobody on the team has made one like it.
  • You have proposals from vendors and no independent way to compare them.
  • Technology spending has grown without a clear picture of what it delivers.
  • You want a plan that the leadership team can understand and support.

Look at something else when

  • You already know what to do and need it done: go to the delivery service, such as ERP Application Deployment or Software Development.
  • You want a detailed review of security and infrastructure: start with Technology Assessment.
  • You want a full multi-year budget and roadmap: see Strategic Technology Planning.

How we run it

How we run IT Consulting

Every engagement runs in phases, so the business sees progress and risks surface early. The timescale for each phase is set after an assessment, not before.

  1. Listen

Understand the business, the decision and the people it affects.

  2. Review

Look at the systems, contracts and costs that bear on it.

  3. Frame the options

Set out the real choices, including doing less or waiting.

  4. Compare

Compare the options on fit, risk and the whole cost of ownership.

  5. Recommend

Give a written recommendation with the reasons, and the risks that remain.

  6. Support the decision

Help with the next step: a vendor conversation, a plan or a pilot.

Questions we are asked

IT Consulting: questions and answers

Are you independent of the products you recommend?

We implement and support several technologies, and we say which. We recommend on the merits for your situation, put the reasons in writing, and tell you when the best answer is a different product, a smaller change, or no change.

How long does an engagement last?

It depends on the question. A review of one proposal can be short; a full audit and target architecture takes longer. We agree the scope and the timescale after we have heard what you need, and not before.

Can you help us choose between vendors?

Yes. We help you define what matters, ask the right questions, compare the answers fairly and understand the cost behind each. The decision stays yours.
