Building, buying and owning software
Should we build software or buy it?
Buy where a product already does what you need: it is cheaper and supported. Build where your process is part of what makes you good, or where packages force workarounds. We recommend one or the other, with the reasons, and we will help you configure and integrate a product if that is the answer.
Who owns the software and the source code?
As set out in your engagement agreement, your organization retains ownership of the source code, database designs and APIs developed for you once each milestone is complete. We provide documentation, clean repositories and deployment runbooks so that you are not locked in to us.
How do you manage scope and cost?
By building in steps. We define a first release small enough to be used quickly, estimate it, build it, and use what we learn to plan the next. We tell you early if scope is growing and what it would displace. Timescales are set after discovery, not before.
Which technologies do you build with?
Typically TypeScript, Node.js, Python and relational databases on Microsoft Azure or the host you prefer, chosen for the job and for who will maintain the result. We explain the choice, and we avoid exotic technology that would leave you dependent on us.
